New Zealand South Island in Winter

It has been over a year since I moved to New Zealand for half a year. Here is an impression of my travels through the South Island, mainly during winter, some autumn. It is paradise on Earth if you ask me. Only 1 million people, a 70x lower population density than the Netherlands. True but accessible wilderness. Alps, gold beaches, glaciers, rain forest and desert, all within a 4 hour drive or cheap flights. Relaxed and friendly people; British culture, but laid-back. 3rd in the UN development index 2010. Perfect climate. Cheap housing and land. The only major drawbacks are low internet speeds, isolated from the rest of the world and bad currency rates if you travel abroad. I may go and live there at some point in my life (not now), you should all join me ;)

Binaural Recordings

You'll need headphones for this to work. Make sure there is no noise around, close your eyes, turn the volume up a little bit, hold and press headphone on your ears for better hearing, play it and enjoy this impressive audio work ( illusion ). Not a screamer not a prank!

Binaural recording @ wiki

This clip also has some effective examples. This clip is also quite good.

Supernova vs (dusty) Galaxy

"Far away, long ago, a star exploded. Supernova 1994D, visible as the bright spot on the lower left, occurred in the outskirts of disk galaxy NGC 4526."

Gooble Gobble, one of us

This is the clip I talked about recently, it's from the 1932 movie Freaks. Embedding is disabled on the video so you'll have to use this link.

South Park even spoofed it.

Synchronized Fireflies

Shitty quality video, but an amazing phenomenon. BBC needs to film this in HD.
