Flash header

/\ /\ /\ /\ /\ Look at what we've got now...... click it to make it go again. P.S. There is an easteregg in there. Don't use the tab button, use this hint instead: Evil will reveal itself within an idle brain.

  1. Totally awesome!

Though could you make the clickable area smaller? Now when I hover over the first post half of it works as a repeat button for the header.
Also I would really appreciate it if you reworked the captain somewhat like I tried here. I can't stand Captain Rainbow being covered in pies. :)

  2. Cool, I only just noticed that you see dekus surfing in front of the rainbow. Hard to spot :)
Maybe you could make it a bit slower, or does that diminish the effect?

  3. Done and done, I've made it a bit slower. But if I slow it down anymore it's gonna look weird.

  4. Great work! That easter egg is a nasty fucker :)
I noticed that the old header background is still loaded before or after the flash animation. It could save a lot of bandwidth if you delete it, or maybe replace it with a big blue gif.
Also there is a little glitch on the left edge of the get the font box. I thought it might look better to change the box somewhat like this. It gives more depth impression.

  5. Awesome!!!!

I'm viewing this on a 2.4GHz Celeron and it completely fragged (100% cpu) this system for the full animation. It takes a lot of CPU so you might want to optimise that somehow. It should be no problem on my computer at home though.

I also think the logo on the cloud could settle down a little faster. That waiting time will get annoying when you often view the blog :)

  6. Waiting for what? you can read the blog without the cloud having settled.

  7. looks very cool, although my 2 year old laptop doesn't like it very much. It's completely fragged too!
So I haven't been able to enjoy this in full motion, even when the page is idle I've got 100% CPU.

    BTW, I love adblock!

  8. it's about 700 kb now, I could make it smaller, but we'll lose quality.

  9. I don't think it's about the size. It's that slow computers can't render it fast enough, they slow down and get jerky. Probably because it's not vectored or something. Maybe you could try putting the images through a vector converter. Otherwise, just screw those slow computers.

  10. I can't vector gradients like that, I've tried a lot of different file-sizes and such. But the only thing that works which doesn't lose quality is png-24 and jpg at full-quality.

  11. On a P4 2.4 GHz it's less fraggy than my laptop, but still uses 100% CPU. I hope there still some room for improvement, because it would be a pity if computers like this one couldn't run it properly.

What's up with the title coming down? Why is it going sideways?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Sideways? Because it's floating down of course..

  13. Maybe you could vector everything other than the rainbow?

  14. If people talk about 100% cpu it is pretty noobish for a webdesigner to reply with a smaller filesize ;)

"Waiting for what? you can read the blog without the cloud having settled."

Yes, but the movement will get annoying after a while. On slower computers you have to wait for the animation to end before you can watch a video in youtube.

I can't use the blog on my laptop or gf's shitty computer anymore without stopping the flash animation every time.

  15. Well I think the longer it moves, the better. I have no trouble reading the blog with carebears sliding over rainbows.

  16. Carebears sliding everywhere are always cool! I do like the blog title to be in place within one minute though :) Just my 2 cents.

I also noticed a problem with links in the top of the top/last post of the blog. In pimps post I can't click the links under "may 2007" and "august 2007". I think that is because of the stars flying over (a layer on top of the posts?).

I also couldn't click the Mithras post title when it was on top. I thought it had no link attached. That should be fixed because we have to be able to link the title.

  17. Yeah, I just noticed that problem, very annoying.

  18. AAAHHHH! Now I see how it is supposed to be! (I'm at home now with a better cpu)!

It's also way faster and fluent now.
