I remember we were trying some stone balancing on vacation. That was nothing compared to this Bill Dan. He has been doing this for the last 14 years, if he continues doing this for another 14 years i'm sure he will get the stones to float in the air.
HAX, GLUE!!!!!
ReplyDeleteNo, it appears to be real, there's even a video in the linked article.
I have a hard time believing this is real.
ReplyDeleteIt's such an unstable structure, how can a bird land and sit on it? The stones, at least, have to be less pointy than they look from a distance. Or is there some stabilizing effect in the way he builds his structures? I don't see it and I still can't believe it.
Did you see the videoclip? He does seem to adjust the stones a lot to get a good contact and balance. Birds don't weigh much, but I agree it looks unlikely.
ReplyDeleteYes, I watched the video. It looks real. The stones can't be too pointy, it needs a flat or hollow point(with edge) with a 3cm diameter to be stable with a 1kg bird sitting on top of it, 10cm from the centre of mass. That's just a quick calculation.
ReplyDeleteIt should be possible with well shaped stones, not with random pointy stones.
maybe this picture was taking on the last living seconds of the bird.
