Every company wants this, it seems Google is just very good at it.
Google should respect my privacy, but that is in its own interest. Mass scale anonymous data gathering for advertisement is good for everyone. Better and less ads on the web.
The worst thing that can happen is that you have to switch to a new mail/phone/docs/etc account at some other provider, which will always exist. Technology will makes this switch easy. As is importing your hotmail account in gmail.
The good thing is that Google, in contrast to Microsoft, embraces open source software. Google more and more supports and participates in open source projects, as do many companies, like IBM. If it creates an OS (or cloud OS, Chrome on steroids), it will very likely be free and open source. It also does not use Microsofts Embrace, extand and extinguish tactics.
I wonder when Kroes will go after Google.
The electricity thing is mainly because their servers eat electricity. The internet cable thing is to provide as many people as possible with internet (ads).
There is already a European anti-trust investigation into Google. Google is still negotiating with China. I think they will mostly back down with their anti censorship policy.
