Blogger 2.0

I upgraded to the contemporary blogger so that we don't get stuck in the past like old grumpy man and professor Barabas. What you see now is the default template. We can change it.

We can still go back to the old one. I do not plan to customize this one right now but I was getting sick of being stuck in the past and the flash eating my precious CPU. I could also not post pictures because of some weird error.

So let me know if you are an old grumpy man and want the old blogger back. Else, gay up the template!

  1. I agree that we needed to update, but this needs more rainbows :)

it's all pink now! I like the clean look though

good job on updating to 2.0, only I don't exactly know about the benefits

If we plan to alter the template, do we need to consider wordpress?

  3. It is pink now because I picked the color! Everyone can change it and is free to do so. I also just made a quick header just to have some rainbow in there but it is no a piece of great art. I can type code, not draw pretty pictures.

Yes, we do need to consider Wordpress. Wordpress probably needs more maintenance/time if we run in on www.rainbowboys.org and importing this blog to wordpress still did not work last time I tried.

I am only in for Wordpress if there are more than one people willing to make something of it (design, layout, widgets, functionality, updates). I am not going to do that alone. We both have semi web and graphical designers, but they do not seem to enjoy actually doing something. Or am I wrong?

  4. I also changed the width of the blog to 1000 pixels because I like to use a bit more width for pictures and videos, but some find the very small column blog style more appealing.

Everyone can change/discuss this, of course.

  5. I like the wider screen, if it's too wide for anyone's native resolution then GTFO and buy a new screen.

I tried adding the code for the poster avatar from the previous blog but it didn't work, cause this is xml or something and me no understandy. Any idea how we can get our avatars back into the posts?

  6. I looked at the code and have no idea. :(

  7. I like pink too, but I like purple more!

Yes I noticed the new blogwidth. For computer screens I welcome the new width. Do we want to consider (smaller) smartphone screens in the width discussion? Or do we have no intention of getting our bloggy compatible with smartphone screens.
I'd say no, since don't (yet) own one.

  8. I wanted to make the background colour rotate over the rainbow, but I first have to understand the blogger code. It is not as easy as I had hoped.

    It is fine for smartphones.

  9. It renders fine on my smartphone too. (auto) Resizing the text margins to fit the zoomed screen even works.

  10. Maybe douche is more familiar with this kind of code?

  11. BTW I really like the how fast our blog is without all the flashy rainbows!

  12. blogger search still stinks. I can't find anything!

Features I liked in the old blogger:
    - proper search
    - carebears in post title
    - random quote
    - random image
    - stats (onestat, google analytics, map thingy)

Blogger 2.0 labels are much better!
You can now really browse labels, instead of only loading the first 100 or so.

  13. the search has been improved greatly! Did anyone do something or did it need time for indexing?

  14. Me no touch no nothing. Is the search Google worthy now?

I am pretty confident that I can write "Google Gadgets" for random quotes, random images and hopefully also post and comment count per contributor and maybe more. Just a bit of learning the Google Blogger API and some Javascript, but I am not going to that before we decide on what to use.

I added the old Google analytics to the html so that should still work.

  15. No, not really.

Try searching for the man salad posts from dekus

  16. Added random image, random quote and map. You can just do "Add Gadget" and insert a html or javascript code. Adding the avatar the post will be harder.

  17. And a better customised search. Try again for your salad!

  18. Me like guys its way faster for me now. Good job

  19. Good job indeed!

I guess you concluded there wasn't going to be any assistance from douche and dekus to get the wordpress started. good call. We'd end up with the heavy flashy crap if douche did some work on the blog.

I looked into the avatar in the posttitle, unfortunately it's too complicated for me.

here, here and here is some info on authorimages in the blog. I managed to get an image in the title, but I couldn't get it to show the right bear for the right post.

  20. I actually like the layout our blog had and Douche's work, and we all mostly agreed on it. Though I also appreciate the clean look of this one, maybe we can compromise and include more stylized versions of care bears and rainbows.
