nice found the first picture is actually a schematic picture of a plan for "Schiphol" in the Netherlands. by making the runway platforms floating on the water it would be "easy" to turn them around (like a big propeller with in the middle the terminals etc). So that the planes can lift of easily with the right wind directions.
