I don't think this has anything to do with political freedom. The political free countries have already had their super booming industrial revolution. The 2nd and 3rd world countries with little political freedom are catching up...

The actual distribution of the GDP is also important. Economic growth doesn't mean equal economic growth for everyone. I can imagine this is worse in politically repressed countries.

indeed, this doesn't say anything about the GDP level, only about growth. Also it doesn't mention the distribution.

A democracy / freedom of speech is clearly not a condition for economic growth.

I still see a decent economic growth in democratic countries. Not sure what economic growth really tells.

I want to see the same figure for the big mac index :) (or other purchasing power parity).

I sure agree that it is a very interesting graph!
