TIL: you can travel a wind powered vehicle faster downwind than the wind speed

TIL (today I learned)

I still can't get my head around how it works, but it has been proved that it does.

Background article that I can make little sense of.

information is beautiful

This guy David McCandless has a serieus data fetish. Some of the pictures he pulls out of the stats are nice aswell.
My favorites are the time line of scare stories:
And the wiki lame edit war is also funny:
He also had some nice background stats in google docs
Here is his TED-Talk

Amateur Manned Suborbital Spaceflight

Pure awesomeness from Copenhagen. These amateurs from Copenhagen Suborbitals are trying to launch a man to > 100 km (suborbital), just like spaceship-one. They are towing their home-made sea launch platform, including rocket, with their home-made submarine to a place where they are allowed to launch. First launch will feature a dummy, it will probably take a few years before they go for a real manned flight, but they are serious about it. This is all done with less than $50,000. I have been following these guys for a while now in this forum post. This week it hit the interwebz news, launch is in 5 days.

America can't be considered a civilized country Part III

Another part in our series

North Carolina Crime Lab Buried Blood Evidence

Greg Taylor was wrongfully convicted of killing a prostitute in 1991 in North Carolina. Taylor proclaimed his innocence, but the evidence against him seemed insurmountable: blood from the victim found on his SUV.

The catch is that there was never any blood in the car. Taylor was convicted after crime lab technicians reported traces of blood on his SUV near the crime scene. Those same technicians buried the results of additional testing that showed there was never any blood. Taylor wrongly served 17 years in prison until being released in February.

Mitchell and Webb deal with conspiracies

The Sacred War

I think this is the music we heard at the big motherfucking thing 2 in kiev. It's about the Great Patriotic war:

Get up, the giant country,
Get up for mortal fight
With German horde uncounted,
With forces of the night

Chorus:
Let noble anger of the soul
Get boiled as a wave.
The peoples war, the holy war.
Well fight until the grave.

Let's give repulse to oppressors
Of all the ardent thoughts.
To rapers and to murderers,
Let's say the swear words.

Chorus

We will not let the darkened wings
Fly over Motherland.
The native country spacious fields
Are not for fiend's extend.
Chorus

For rotten fascist pack we've got
A bullet and a bomb.
The spawn of the planet Earth
Must get into the tomb.
