Some have argued that we are destined to evolve into super-beings, others that we are turning into dim-witted goblins incapable of anything more demanding than watching TV.
But according to a leading geneticist, both visions are wrong because human evolution has ground to a halt.
Professor Steve Jones, of University College London, says the forces driving evolution - such as natural selection and genetic mutation - no longer play an important role in our lives.

That's one of our (beer) theories from 6-7 years ago, isn't it?
Progress by technology is only bounded by natures laws though. I think we will use more genetics/evolution in our technology (genetic algorithms in computers) and more technology in our genetics (genetic engineering).
I agree with that Annom.
But even without engineering I don't
think we can rule evolution out. There might be no selection by way of death nowadays, like 'unfit' people dying. But there still is sexual selection. Some population groups are more likely to have more kids than others. But this might still be negated by the global mixing of everyone.
I'd like to read other geneticists views on this.
