House and Senate Seats

With the upcoming election in the Netherlands, several parties have suggested for a reduction in House seats (Tweede Kamer) and to suspend the Dutch Senate (Eerste Kamer). I did some comparison to other European countries to see how common the unicameral parliament is. From wikipedia: where the blue countries are bicameral and the orange unicameral. As you can see, of the European countries, the unicameral system is common for northern and eastern European countries. The following fancy graph shows the number of citizens per house seat for different countries.
Groenlinks suggested that the Dutch should decrease the number of seats in the Tweede Kamer to 100, resulting to 165000 citizens per seat, making it the seats with the highest density of Europe. Here is a less attractive graph:

Nice enlightening post. I was quite surprised that they wanted to suspend the senate, but they are not alone because SP, GL, D66, and the PVV want it too.
On the other hand I never hear much of importance about the senate, so maybe they don't do much important stuff. I did always think they were important in judging the (constitutional) validity of a law.

I'm also not really for a drastic reduction in the number of house seats. It would make it really difficult for the small parties to have enough people to play a part in all the different committees.

I'm also not a fan of the reduction of house seats. I looked in the program of Groenlinks, but they didn't provide any arguments for the reduction.
My main concern is the same as yours, cybr, perhaps the small parties should be eleminated with a higher threshold?

The purpose of the senate is unclear to me. I suppose it is never a bad idea to doublecheck the laws, but isn't the Raad van State doing something similar?

It's also not completely clear to me why we need a senate. If they are there to check it for constitutional validity, shouldn't they be independent, more judge like? They can now block laws without any reason, if they want.

Here is D66's argument to suspend the senate:

(Raad van state:
