In this photo the Mars Rover Opportunity, after travelling 9200m over the Martian surface, is standing on the edge of the 70m deep Victoria crater. The crater allows the geologists to look into much deeper layers of sediment, thus giving a deeper look into Martian history.
There is a good chance that Opportunity may never come out of the crater and that's why the HiRise camera on the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter took this picture.

Find Opportunity
