Battle of Iwo Jima

Most of the RBB have seen the movie Flags of Our Fathers, that's why I post this here. I can't find the torrent of the documentary about Iwo Jima, but it's still on my HD.
Amazing that more than 90% of the Japanese died.

cybrbeast (referring to Flags of Our Fathers):
Ira Hayes (you guys found him the most annoying character, I found him the best)
Referring to his alcoholism, he once said: "I was sick. I guess I was about to crack up thinking about all my good buddies. They were better men than me and they're not coming back. Much less back to the White House, like me." After the war, Hayes accumulated some fifty arrests for drunkenness.

In 1954, after a ceremony where he was lauded by President Eisenhower as a hero, a reporter rushed up to him and asked him, "How do you like the pomp and circumstance?" Hayes just hung his head and said, "I don't."

Ira's tragic story was immortalized in a song, "The Ballad of Ira Hayes", by Peter LaFarge. Covers of this song were done by
Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Smiley Bates, Bob Dylan, Kinky Friedman and Townes van Zandt. In 1964, Johnny Cash took the song to number 3 on the Billboard country music chart.

Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima
The movie seems to be pretty accurate.

Now we have to wait until the other part; Letters from Iwo Jima is released. It's a top 250 movie.

nice post, cybr & annom!

I guess surrender was not an option for those Japs. There are no wounded!

The most annoying character IMO was Pauline Harnois, she was the fiancé of Rene Garnois.

I would never do that to a Hero!

I find it amazing that they got a 1 : 1 ratio on taking "out" marines.

War is not like team deathmatch on cod 2. You actually lose when they outnumber you 5 to 1.
