Sacks Spiral (Prime Number Pattern)
The Ulam spiral, or prime spiral (in other languages also called the Ulam cloth) is a simple method of graphing the prime numbers that reveals a pattern. It was discovered by the mathematician Stanisław Ulam in 1963, while doodling on scratch paper at a scientific meeting. Ulam, bored that day, wrote down a regular grid of numbers, starting with 1 at the center, and spiraling out:

10 Baffling Medical Conditions

The Gyro Monorail

The gyro monorail, gyroscopic monorail, gyro-stabilized monorail, or gyrocar all denote a single rail land vehicle, road or rail, which uses the gyroscopic action of a spinning wheel, which is forced to precess, to overcome the inherent inverted pendulum instability of balancing on top of a single rail. The principal advantage of the monorail cited by Schilovski is the suppression of the Hunting oscillation, which was a speed limitation encountered by conventional railways at the time. Also, significantly reduced radii of turn are possible compared with the 7km typical of modern high-speed trains, e.g. TGV. This is possible because the vehicle will bank automatically on bends, like an aircraft, so that no lateral centrifugal acceleration is experienced on board.Very interesting wiki article. Too bad there never was anymore development on this. It seems very promising. Even though it looks unsafe, it's actually quite safe. If all power fails the gyros will still be spinning for a long time and the train can slowly slow down. One track also means much cheaper railway tracks.

Sexy Consumer Camera

Casio has launched the Exilim EX-FH20 high speed digital compact camera. Building on the interest in its EX-F1 model, the FH20 offers a burst rate of up to 40fps and movies at 1000fps. The camera is built around a 9.1MP, 1/2.3” CMOS sensor and 20x zoom lens (26-520mm equiv) Priced at £399, the EX-FH20 is considerably less expensive than the EX-F1. • 1280 x 720 (HD 30 fps) • 640 × 480 (STD, 30 fps) • 480 × 360 (HS, 30-210 fps) • 224 × 168 (HS, 420 fps) • 224 × 56 (HS, 1000 fps) More specs...Current lowest price in the Netherlands € 399. Quite amazing for a camera with these specs that also doubles as an HD camcorder and is able to make super slow motion video, although in lower resolution.

Doctors can’t tell why Mandy Sellars' legs keep expanding
Doctors can’t tell Mandy Sellars why her legs keep expanding – all they say is that her only option is a drastic amputation. She travelled to the US for a new TV show in search of an alternative... It’s not easy being Mandy Sellars. She has hugely outsized legs that make having a normal life nearly impossible.
People stare whenever she leaves the house, she needs a special car to get around and can’t work full time.
What’s more, her condition is getting worse and doctors say she needs an amputation so severe she won’t be able to sit up.

Buried Glaciers Found on Mars
Mars has vast glaciers hidden under aprons of rocky debris near mid-latitude mountains, a new study confirms, pointing to a new and large potential reservoir of life-supporting water on the planet.
These mounds of ice exist at much lower latitudes than any ice previously found on the red planet.
"Altogether, these glaciers almost certainly represent the largest reservoir of water ice on Mars that's not in the polar caps," said John Holt of the University of Texas at Austin and the main author of the study. "Just one of the features we examined is three times larger than the city of Los Angeles and up to one-half-mile thick, and there are many more."

Waterschapsverkiezingen: We mogen weer!
Zoals jullie ongetwijfeld weten mogen we weer kiezen!

On this site you can take a time trial game where you play through one deck of Set. There is always a possible combination, though it can take some time to find it. Each day there's a new deck.

Real Life Furby Has Been Rediscovered
Anthropologists discover long-lost primate in Indonesia
A team led by a Texas A&M University anthropologist has discovered a group of primates not seen alive in 85 years. The pygmy tarsiers, furry Furby/gremlin-looking creatures about the size of a small mouse and weighing less than 2 ounces, have not been observed since they were last collected for a museum in 1921. Several scientists believed they were extinct until two Indonesian scientists trapping rats in the highlands of Sulawesi accidentally trapped and killed a pygmy tarsier in 2000. Full Article...

The Horror...
A series of horrific murders of albinos in Tanzania has shocked the nation. As children are hacked to death for their body parts, believed to bring good luck, the authorities are failing to stop a trade in organs that relies on superstition and greed
The Tanzanian MP recounts the appalling story in a tone of sadness and horror. A woman named Salma had been told by her family to dress her baby entirely in black and to lay the little girl in a hut, alone. 'The mother didn't understand, but she obeyed the elders,' said Al-Shaymaa Kwegyir.
'Some hours later, unknown men arrived and went straight to the hut. They used a machete to cut off the child's legs. Then they slit her throat and poured the blood into a pot and drank it.'
