How sewing machines work

interesting. Pretty simple technology.
When seeing this i wonder why all the
sewing machines make such an irritating noise. is it the nail penetrating the cloth? is it the spinning wheel? or is it something else.

It would be cool to invent some silence household products like sewing machine, vacuum cleaner etc.

wiki, if you look closely, you'll see that the cloth isn't moving continuously. the noise you hear is the cloth accelerating.

I just made that up, does it make any sense?

I'm not sure.
if you are right different cloths should make different sounds. For me the sewing machine of my girlfriend always makes the same sound. I'm not an sewing machine expert and my hearing sux so i actually don't know :)
