Lets not go to Dubai...
Briton jailed for four years in Dubai after customs find cannabis weighing less than a grain of sugar under his shoe
A search by customs officials uncovered a speck of cannabis weighing just 0.003g - so small it would be invisible to the naked eye and weighing less than a grain of sugar - on the tread of one of his shoes.
A 25-year-old Briton who was found with a similar speck in one pocket as he arrived on holiday has been awaiting sentence since November.
One man has even been jailed for possession of three poppy seeds left over from a bread roll he ate at Heathrow Airport. Painkiller codeine is also banned.
Quite likely that there will be a speck on one of us. So unless we buy a complete new wardrobe and bags I wouldn't want to go into the country.

I have no idea about the context of the image, seems like it must have been a hell of night though :)

Drawing vs LSD
These drawings were done as part of a CIA experiment aimed at determining the effects of LSD on the human body. The drawings are incredibly fascinating, particularly due to the progression of style that occurs throughout the experiment. They administered 100ul of LSD to the artist and gave the artist free access to an activity box full of crayons. His subject was the medical assistant who administered the LSD.

Christopher Hitchens, still outrageous
One of my heroes. I hope, but doubt, he will get remission from his cancer.

At least 12,000 people have died this year in Mexico's drug war
Through Nov. 30, 12,456 people were killed, making 2010 the deadliest year since Mexican President Felipe Calderon began a government crackdown against traffickers in 2006, the Los Angeles Times reported. The death toll since the start of the drug war is nearly 30,200, said Mexican Attorney General Arturo Chavez. Other officials estimate the death toll at about 32,000.Photo from Blog Del Narco which covers a lot of this. War on Drugs... :(

NRC Handelsblad, 18 mei 2010
Schaf verbod op soft- én harddrugs af. Dat dringt de criminaliteit terug, schrijft Bolkestein
Omkoping, bedreiging, corruptie, afrekeningen.

America can't be considered a civilized country - Part II
We already had this post about how America treats (some) gays. Today I came along two drug related stories that, again, show that America can not be considered a civilized country.
Meet Roderick J. Walker. He is sentenced to LIFE in prison for selling LSD. Here is some more official background information. It only confirms his story. He will spend the rest of his life behind bars, no parole, unless the president does something or a miracle happens. For selling LSD.
And second, here you can see how a SWAT team will enter your house and shoot your dogs in front of your 7 year old son and wife, if they suspect you posses some weed and bongs:

How wasted can you be?
We've already had Larry on the blog who showed us getting beer while smashed can be a challenge.
Putting on a slipper can also be very difficult when you're shitfaced.
BTW, these clips are also great to try the awesome Benny Hillifier on :)
You just paste the YouTube link in the site and it turns the very recognizable and fitting Benny Hill music into the soundtrack.
Being completely wasted might also make you mistake trousers for a t-shirt.
Hooray for alcohol!

Hallucinogens Have Doctors Tuning In Again
New York Times - April 11, 2010
As a retired clinical psychologist, Clark Martin was well acquainted with traditional treatments for depression, but his own case seemed untreatable as he struggled through chemotherapy and other grueling regimens for kidney cancer. Counseling seemed futile to him. So did the antidepressant pills he tried.
Nothing had any lasting effect until, at the age of 65, he had his first psychedelic experience. He left his home in Vancouver, Wash., to take part in an experiment at Johns Hopkins medical school involving psilocybin, the psychoactive ingredient found in certain mushrooms.
Scientists are taking a new look at hallucinogens, which became taboo among regulators after enthusiasts like Timothy Leary promoted them in the 1960s with the slogan “Turn on, tune in, drop out.” Now, using rigorous protocols and safeguards, scientists have won permission to study once again the drugs’ potential for treating mental problems and illuminating the nature of consciousness.

The most dangerous drug
"In summary: if I've learned anything, it's that I don't much care for mood-altering substances. But I'm not afraid of them either. With one exception.
It's perhaps the biggest threat to the nation's mental wellbeing, yet it's freely available on every street – for pennies. The dealers claim it expands the mind and bolsters the intellect: users experience an initial rush of emotion (often euphoria or rage), followed by what they believe is a state of enhanced awareness. Tragically this "awareness" is a delusion. As they grow increasingly detached from reality, heavy users often exhibit impaired decision-making abilities, becoming paranoid, agitated and quick to anger. In extreme cases they've even been known to form mobs and attack people. Technically it's called "a newspaper", although it's better known by one of its many "street names", such as "The Currant Bun" or "The Mail" or "The Grauniad" (see me – Ed)." Read more...

Polar Pot Plot
Plotting this formula yields a nice leaf:
PolarPlot[(1 + 0.9 Cos[8 t]) (1 + 0.1 Cos[24 t]) (0.9 + 0.05 Cos[200 t]) (1 + Sin[t]), {t, -Pi, Pi}]You can see it plotted here.
