Dutch consider 'magic' mushroom ban

The Netherlands, well known for its liberal policies on soft drugs like marijuana, may follow Ireland and ban the sale of hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Recently, a teenage tourist in the Netherlands died after jumping off a bridge during a trip.

The Irish government banned the sale and possession of hallucinogenic mushrooms under similar circumstances last year after a Dublin man fell to his death at a Halloween party in 2005. Dutch Health Minister Ab Klink ordered a special study into the 'magic' mushrooms and their effects Tuesday. A majority of lawmakers in the Netherlands is in favour of a ban, according to the Dutch news agency ANP.

Both dried and fresh mushrooms can be bought freely in so-called 'smart shops' even though 'actively' dried mushrooms are technically illegal.

Amsterdam, the Dutch capital, has become an international tourist destination because of its tolerance for soft drug use and government-regulated coffee shops that legally sell small amounts of cannabis.

I'll jump off a bridge when they ban mushrooms!

You could make it an English post:

This is so scary. Goodbye freedom.
Still some way to go though, first there will be a (biased) study then the coalition has to agree. PvdA isn't for the ban, though they might concede to the christian parties.

Those so called liberals, the VVD, are for the ban, it's ridiculous. Time to write another letter Annom!
Also the PVV is for the ban. Party for Freedom my ass.

Partij Kamervragen Nav mediabericht
PVV 16 88%
VVD 29 86%
SGP 7 86%
CDA 20 80%
PVDA 19 79%
D66 8 75%
CU 6 67%
PvdD 3 67%
SP 35 60%
GL 13 54%

They most likely don't even know what the effects of magic mushrooms are.

They support something that seriously affects my freedom, based on an incident in the news. I've lost my hope in politics (again).

Ab Klink is a CDA piemel. What institute is going to do the special study? I want to know.

RIVM

The same study has already been done in 2000 by the IGZ. Here is that risk assessment report relating to paddos.

I think I'm going to send a copy to all political parties.

This somehow reminds me of a Pink Floyd song:

"There must be some mistake, I never meant to let them take, away my soul. Am I too old? Is it too late? Where has the feeling gone? Will I remember this song? The show must go on."

Wow pimp, that list you posted is pretty shocking. Where is the real governance? This is all about media attention...

cybrbeast said...

Good to see SP and GL at the bottom of the list though!
